Part O1 of the building regulations is applicable to a “dwelling, institution or any other building containing one or more rooms for residential purposes, other than a room in a hotel”. Approved Document O clarifies this to include all areas of a mixed-use building that are for residential purposes, including corridors that serve residential units, shared communal rooms and common spaces of residential buildings.
